IN THE MID-1990s, my family and I lived in Ethiopia on the Horn of Africa. During the first year and a half of our stay, I was ill with constant episodes of food poisoning.

FROM AN EARLY AGE, I suffered for many years from the symptoms of what appeared to be a severe case of asthma. My father had suffered from asthma, and so had other members of my extended family.

HAVING REACHED four score years and ten, I think it's time to submit this testimony of my gratitude to God for a life enriched and overflowing with His blessings, and for what Christian Science has meant to me. My mother had lost two babies in earlier years, and I spent much of my school years in hospitals.

I AM MOST EXCITED to have found the key to the "gates of Paradise," as Mrs. Eddy promised in Science and Health: "Through discernment of the spiritual opposite of materiality, even the way through Christ, Truth, man will reopen with the key of divine Science the gates of Paradise which human beliefs have closed, and will find himself unfallen, upright, pure, and free.

LAST SUMMER, I had been doing a lot of physical labor and running a few miles each morning with our new dog. One day, I noticed that my hip was starting to hurt.

SEVERAL YEARS AGO, my left foot developed a severe case of athlete's foot. Though annoying and uncomfortable, I thought it would simply clear up on its own.

I WAS STUNNED. At an appointment to have my teeth cleaned, a dentist whom I had not previously visited informed me that I had a serious gum disease and scheduled me to come back for special procedures.

A FEW YEARS AGO, I experienced the powerful and immediate healing effect of Christian Science prayer. At a high school where I used to work, I was privileged to help coach the junior varsity track team.
