In 1993, around the time I first learned about Christian Science, I decided to apply these teachings to my life to overcome a physical condition I had lived with for my entire life: chronic sinus infections. Prior to my finding Christian Science, the doctors had told me that I would have to live in a bubble to be completely free of sinus symptoms. They told me that they could operate on me, but there was no guarantee that the operation would work. So I had been left to resign myself to chronic sinus symptoms that would recur every year.
I began each day by reading Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, the weekly Christian Science Bible Lesson, and calling my friend and mentor who was responsible for my initial introduction to Christian Science. It was very helpful to have someone only a telephone call away, with whom I could discuss all the new spiritual ideas and concepts that I was being exposed to daily through those readings.
I was determined I was going to have a healing. I am usually a very tenacious and persistent person, and thus I began praying. Instead of taking medicine, I turned wholly to God and knew that the divine Creator was my only source and that I was enveloped in His creation. Knowing this truth about myself, I thought, How could evil have any power over me? It couldn’t!
