Letters

From the April 2011 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The article “Be Yourself” (Diane P. Dailey, p. 29) in the February Journal was so outstanding. I’ve used it as a treatment to see my true selfhood, to know nothing can interfere with my spiritual sense—that thoughts of destructive character traits, such as selfishness, moodiness, impatience, etc., cannot interfere with my knowing who I truly am. I’m discovering my God-given identity by growing out of various forms of mistaken identity, as Diane Dailey states. The interview with Al Carnesciali, “Through the Lens of God’s Science”(p. 20), certainly opened my eyes to ways to more effectively handle the belief of pain. I saw that what he said about divine Love, constantly nurturing and renewing all of creation, is a fact that I need to be more aware of—that I am constantly renewed and nurtured and there can be no decline in human experience. In addition, Lyle Young’s article, “Clear the Mental Atmosphere” (p. 52), has helped me see that we must be purifiers, and that as we purify our consciousness, we will purify our atmosphere. Many thanks for this wonderful monthly magazine that always inspires and uplifts me.

Thank you for the article “On Church Growth . . .” (p. 16) by Carlos Machado. To me it was a very powerful article, and I would like to thank Mr. Machado for his TKO to the belief that we are in decline. It reminds me of a line from Hymn 391, “Why do ye look with tearful eyes / And seek far off for paradise?” (Charles H. Barlow, Christian Science Hymnal). We have a three-by-five world map on one wall of our Christian Science Reading Room. Two weeks ago, while serving in the Reading Room, I thought it would be enlightening to add a small dot of modeling clay to every country where, according to Journal listings, there was a Christian Science church or society. Once complete, it was thrilling to see all of the places. Then I wanted a larger map, to map the cities; however, even the Mapparium at The Christian Science Publishing Society wouldn’t be big enough for that!
