Testimonies of Healing
In October, 1895, l came to live with a family who were Christian Scientists. I found the book Science and Health lying on the table, and began to read, and later to inquire what it was.
Christian Science has freed me from hereditary sick headache, from rheumatism which was inherited from both sides of the family, and from a peculiar phase of constipation which materia medica said was incurable. This last-named disease I was five years in overcoming, treating myself after taking class instruction.
When I was sixteen years of age I passed through a siege of sickness which was named by physicians, appendicitis. It seemed to be a bad case, as I was confined to my bed many weeks and was afterward weak for a long time.
For several years I was troubled with what I believe is called "consumption of the blood. " My blood apparently dried up until I would be perfectly colorless, even to my lips, and so weak that to exert myself, even to talk, would exhaust me.
It is with deep-felt gratitude that I give my testimony of what Christian Science has done for me. I suffered from eczema for twenty years, and although I consulted eminent physicians in the towns in which I lived, as well as the best specialists in London, I found the complaint gradually spreading over my body.
It is now seven months since my wonderful healing in Christian Science. For years I had suffered with heart disease, a trouble which appeared when I was twenty-one years old.
The half has never been told. I have been thinking for quite a while that I would write to the Journal of the many proofs we have had of the loving care of our Father-Mother God.
From earliest boyhood my heart went out in yearning after spiritual things. At the age of ten years I joined an orthodox church, and for several years took an active part in all its meetings.
Persons whom Christian Science has blessed use every legitimate means to convey this healing truth to others. Many of us, however, have failed to realize, until now, what a splendid pulpit we have for this very purpose in the Journal and Sentinel.
Nearly thirteen years ago I was healed by Christian Science, after having been pronounced an incurable by four physicians. From childhood I was taught that religion and sickness went hand in hand; that sickness was permitted by God in order to make us patient, loving, and "resigned to His will.
