My mother was one of seven children, all of whom were raised on a farm in the early 1900s. Mother was the oldest and had to work very hard in the fields, in addition to playing the part of a second mother to the other children.

As a senior in high school, I was introduced to Christian Science by my best friend. We engaged in endless discussions because I had so many questions.

Having been raised with Christian Science in my home, I was lovingly cared for and guided into an understanding of God as Life, Truth, and Love. Many happy occurrences and great protection resulted from this understanding.

When I was in my early twenties, a young wife and mother, I became ill and was under the care of medical specialists all one summer. After many examinations and tests I was told I had three incurable diseases—enteritis, a heart condition, and a nervous condition.
