My mother used to take me to the nursery of a Church of Christ, Scientist, when I was a baby. Later I was enrolled in the Sunday School, which I attended until I was twenty years old and where I received a good foundation in Christian Science.
Christian Science was introduced to our family when doctors had given up all hope of my mother's recovery from a stomach ailment. Due to her healing through Christian Science treatment, she had thirty-eight more active and fruitful years.
I am deeply grateful for Christian Science and for all of the good that the study of Christian Science has brought to my experience. While I was touring with a ballet company, I became so despondent that I did not care about anything.
I first learned of Christian Science in my early twenties. At that time I was suffering from a bowel condition which caused much weakness, and the condition was believed to be inherited.
Being a young mother, I can certainly enjoy and appreciate the wonderful blessing it is to be able to raise a child in Christian Science. Whenever anxiety, confusion, or seeming problems arise, one is always able to turn with confidence to God and know that "he hath done all things well"! ( Mark 7:37.
What a joy and privilege it is to be a Christian Scientist! I remember thinking when I was quite young how wonderful Christian Science must be. The love, harmony, and joy expressed by a dear aunt and uncle and their family, students of Science, were always something I desired more than anything.
I would like to express in writing my deepest gratitude for all the blessings I have experienced in Christian Science. Christian Science came to my family and me in 1949, when we found ourselves in difficult circumstances in East Germany.
After three years in and out of a mental hospital searching for the meaning of life and peace of mind, I was still in the dark. Although I had been a member of a Protestant church since childhood, the Bible was a closed book to me.
Thirty-two years ago, when Christian Science was presented to me, I did not expect to live. While I was living away from home, my landlady found me in tears and said, "I was just about in that condition once, and reading a little book helped me.
