"Fear not: for I am with thee" (Isa. 43:5). I am very grateful for the opportunity to see the power of this truth of God's omnipresence in action.
A few years ago our unattended car rolled down our driveway. As a result of this a man was injured. Our insurance company tried to make a settlement with this man, but at that time he was unwilling to settle. Shortly thereafter this insurance company declared bankruptcy; and, as a result, we were being sued for a large sum of money. The thought of injustice filled my thinking; I became very upset.
The poet Pope says, "An honest Man's the noblest work of God." Knowing through our understanding of Christian Science that there is actually no other kind of man, we contacted this individual through our attorney to try to make a settlement; again this was rejected. At this time it was brought to our attention that our home owner's policy would cover such a situation. Due to the time that had passed since the accident this company was unwilling to stand behind us. We then lost a civil suit over whether or not this company should back us. This too seemed unjust and contrary to most rulings in similar cases.
