THE DIVINE EMBRACE

Exodus 20:4-6

From the May 1969 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"I . . . am a jealous God." Vindictiveness,
Like mist before the light, evaporates
As higher meaning floods the thought: "I claim
My own and hold them now, for they are Mine.
No lesser power can or ever will
Loosen My grasp upon My very own.
I will not lend them to another mind.
I cannot give them to another god.
As sunbeams are forever bound to sun,
As drops of water with the sea are one,
As flowers and fragrance cannot bloom apart,
So spring My own ideas: eternal, Mine,
Hid deep, kept surely, purely in My heart."
