Christian Science heals the sick through a deep understanding of God and of man's unity with Him. Its method is purely spiritual, not psychological. It is not what is commonly called "positive thinking"— merely replacing dark, negative human thoughts with brighter, more positive human thoughts. The plain fact is that the human mind itself is the culprit, a mistaken sense of mind, and one mistake cannot correct another.
To experience genuine healing, one must go deeper in his metaphysical work and thoroughly overhaul and uplift his concept of man and his relationship to God. One must learn that the human mind, being a supposed mixture of good and evil, hasn't the inherent power to heal the sick. He must awaken to the fact that man is not a brain-controlled material organism but wholly spiritual, the individualized expression of the eternal Ego, or Mind, called God. Mrs. Eddy states this in forthright terms when she writes, "The basis of all health, sinlessness, and immortality is the great fact that God is the only Mind; and this Mind must be not merely believed, but it must be understood." Science and Health, p. 339;
How quickly we recognize the healing presence of Mind will depend upon how effectively we police our thinking, how consistent we are in entertaining and expressing the qualities of this Mind. Actually, now and forever, our real identity lives in the all-embracing harmony of intelligent Love. Divine Love is our real consciousness, the very "I" of our being, and this fact will become increasingly apparent through the Christliness of our lives. Not through an intellectual process, but through unselfishness, purity, and integrity will the presence of intelligent good—God Himself—be revealed. This vision of reality unfolds the healing Christ, Truth. Mrs. Eddy writes, "Christ illustrates that blending with God, his divine Principle, which gives man dominion over all the earth." p. 316;
