Students of Christian Science are often asked what Christian Science treatment is. The need to define this method of healing is felt not only by the inquirer but by those who would practice it in their own lives. A vague or fuzzy concept of Christian Science treatment breeds distrust of one's ability to utilize it or to rely fully upon it in the healing of sickness. If one is looking to another more experienced worker to give the needed treatment, he usually will respond more quickly when he understands what it consists of and how it works.
The method of treatment in Christian Science is not difficult or complicated. Indeed, children in the Christian Science Sunday School learn the fundamentals of this healing method and often treat themselves and others with marked success. It is this very simplicity in treatment that seems to elude precise definition. It makes futile any attempt to arrive at a formula for successful treatment. The inspiration that heals can never be reduced to rote. While an individual may give a treatment, in every case it is God who heals. This is the point children sometimes seem to grasp more readily than adults.
Christ Jesus was the master healer. He did not specifically define his healing method to his students. His teachings make it plain, however, that the power he manifested came from his understanding of God and of man's relationship to Him. When he looked upon the sick and sinning, he saw as no man before him had seen. His discernment of the changeless perfection of the real man as God's image constituted his treatment of disease.
