Finding Life in God

From the May 1969 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When will the world come to see that Christ Jesus taught great scientific lessons which must be understood by all men and eventually become their code of existence? For instance, Jesus knew the source of life, and it wasn't in matter. He said, "Call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven." Matt. 23:9; On another occasion he said, "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing." John 6: 63;

Jesus taught his followers to look to God, Spirit, for their all—for sinless character, health, sight and hearing, power over material forces, and above all, for eternal life. Failing to understand this lesson, mortals continue to till the soil of material belief in an effort to find improvement, dominion, and development in matter. Year after year researchers intensify their efforts to find the origin of life in matter as well as ways of directing materially the evolution of human life.

Christian Science directs research to the origin of life in God, and this involves healing sinful and sick humanity. Neither true character nor health has a material origin, and both are found to be inherent in the man God makes in His likeness. The effort of one who is drawn to Christian Science should be to turn away from the mortal sense of himself and all that heredity or education or experience has claimed to develop in him and to find his true self in Spirit, apart from matter.
