Liberation from the Sense of Domination

From the May 1969 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Until we come to understand in a measure that Life is God, human experience may be dominated by various negative material influences. It may be the discords of the physical body or the discords of human relationships. Christian Science explains that whenever our thinking is dominated by so-called mortal mind, our human experience is subject to inharmony. But in the degree that we recognize that identity dwells in the universe of Spirit and is God's image and likeness, the human sense of domination by evil and discord is destroyed, and we awake to the supremacy of good in human affairs.

Mrs. Eddy writes: "In proportion as matter loses to human sense all entity as man, in that proportion does man become its master. He enters into a diviner sense of the facts, and comprehends the theology of Jesus as demonstrated in healing the sick, raising the dead, and walking over the wave." And then she adds, "All these deeds manifested Jesus' control over the belief that matter is substance, that it can be the arbiter of life or the constructor of any form of existence." Science and Health, p. 369;

Christ Jesus' exercise of the dominion of his Christlike identity kept him free from any domination by the flesh or by evil. When at the age of twelve he obeyed God's mandate to be about his Father's business, he expressed dominion. Later on he exercised spiritual dominion when he vanquished the so-called laws of matter by healing physical infirmities and sin. Not only did he prove that the harmonious condition of the physical body is determined by true consciousness, which establishes health, but he also demonstrated that no law of matter can dominate individuals when consciousness and actions are aligned to God, divine Love.
