Dear precious Church member,
The prophet Malachi asks us, “Have we not all one father? hath not one God created us?” (Malachi 2:10). How wonderful to be reminded that we all belong to one family — a family of Love that cherishes and values each member and all humanity.
As students of Christian Science, each one of us has committed to following Christ Jesus. Our Master was servant to all and taught us by example to love as he loved, even to wash one another’s feet. We know that he went so far as to wash the feet of Judas, who he knew would betray him, and trusted the result to God. Our desire to demonstrate Christ’s love so deeply and profoundly unifies us as a Church, strengthens our Cause, and brings much-needed healing to the world.
There is every indication that every disciple was needed and appreciated by Jesus. What he taught could be practiced by everyone. Hence our Church, founded by Mary Baker Eddy, is a Church in which each member is equal in contributing his or her highest sense of what it means to follow the Master.
Our contributions to Church take many forms. The most important is our commitment to healing others and ourselves. We also share what we’ve been witnessing of Christ’s healing and saving power at Wednesday meetings and in articles and testimonies written for our periodicals. We subscribe to these print and online publications. We pray during our church services for our congregations and daily for the world. We devote time and effort to conducting services, teaching Sunday School classes, sponsoring lectures, and serving in our community Reading Rooms. We donate as generously as we can to support all our Church activities.
In whatever form it takes, your individual contribution to this “greatest and holiest of all causes,” as Mrs. Eddy declared in remarks dated July 4, 1886 (Miscellaneous Writings 1883-1896, p. 177), brings hope and healing to the world.
With deepest gratitude,
The Christian Science Board of Directors
