A contributor e-mails his editor …

- Editors' Table

We thought we’d post some gratitude that came directly to one of our editors, from a contributor (with his permission, of course). The purpose of sharing this e-mail is not to congratulate ourselves, but to encourage those who might be reluctant to submit their pieces. We think this writer captured the spirit of what we’re all about.

“As I’m hearing and reading good responses to my recent article, I think of it as ‘our’ article—not only mine. Your shepherding of my writing made it a better article than it was in the first draft. I now appreciate more what the editors need to do.

“Even though you all know Christian Science well and are familiar with its terms, you must read each piece as if you were a first-time reader. Then you can catch what might puzzle a person new to this Science, and help the writer make it clearer. That sure sounds like self-forgetfulness to me. Your love for the readers and your knowledge of good writing told you they needed a better conclusion to this message than I first had, and I see how that was right.
