There’s something really fun about working on an article with a teen writer. As Teen Editor of the Sentinel, I get to do that a lot. My co-worker, Jeff Ward-Bailey, also talks to plenty of teen writers, too. (Thanks, Jeff!)

Sometimes I’ll get in touch with a teen during the work day. Of course, e-mail is great any time. But if I have to make a phone call and ask some more questions, I need to be flexible. Many teens have pretty busy schedules. (“Can I talk to you after school, before play practice, but after I finish my homework?”) We get that a lot. But it’s OK!

Sometimes I’ll be at home, seven o’clock in the evening, my cat trying to walk all over my computer keyboard, talking to a teen while I type up some notes. And here are some things I’ve learned. . . .
