A Happy New Year ! This is the wish expressed throughout the world by millions who celebrate the first day of January as the beginning of a new year. How to attain an abiding sense of happiness —this is one of the deep desires of mankind.

WHATEVER Christ Jesus said had great metaphysical meaning and deserves our prayerful study. And this is true of his words recorded in Matthew ( 13:33 ), "The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.

AN eminent electrical engineer, Charles P. Steinmetz, is reported to have said over a quarter of a century ago, "Some day people will learn that material things do not bring happiness and are of little use in making men and women creative and powerful.

ONE way of settling differences between men and nations is through mediation. This is the process whereby two parties, or their representatives, come together with a third person to work out a satisfactory solution to a particular situation about which they do not agree.

ARTICLE III, Section 6, of the Manual of The Mother Church by Mary Baker Eddy specifies that all Readers in branch churches must be members of The Mother Church. The rules for the recognition of a Christian Science Society include a similar provision; so when Christian Scientists apply for the recognition of The Mother Church and for a card in The Christian Science Journal as a branch church or as a society, they should have for Readers members in good standing in The Mother Church.

God is always giving of His goodness and perfection. In fact, it is the very nature of God to give.

With the discovery of Christian Science there has come a need for reevaluating the mission of Christ Jesus. It has been generally granted that he gave proof of such truths as the fatherhood of God and the brotherhood of man, of the power of goodness and the continuity of life.

At this season of the year, when men's thoughts are turning in gratitude to God for His goodness and bountiful gifts, it is well for Christian Scientists to consider the great blessings which have come to mankind through His faithful messenger, Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science. Out of the joys and sorrows of her experience, out of divine revelation and the deep searchings for God and His ways, out of a heart of importunate prayer and spiritual fasting, out of deep-rooted love for all mankind, came the discovery of Christian Science, Then appeared our Soul-inspired textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," setting forth the final revelation of Truth to mankind: Divine Science, the Comforter, as prophesied by Christ Jesus.

The world is in great need of finding something more stable, more abiding than material theories of life. Christian Science points out that the Bible fills that need, for it is a scientific textbook which contains the exact Science of life; it reveals the truth of being.

" The divine understanding reigns, is all , and there is no other consciousness," affirms Mary Baker Eddy in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" ( p. 536 ) Consciousness pertains to God, divine Mind.
