When the plaintiff in a court of law has presented evidence which he believes will support his contention, he announces to the judge, in substance, "I rest my case. " After the opposing party has presented his testimony, the plaintiff may normally submit further evidence to offset the defense.
How shall we measure true value, true worth? The world is inclined to emphasize material things, including money, as an indication of wealth. Yet in the book of Proverbs we read ( 22: 1 ), "A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.
As the season of harvest draws to a close, thought turns naturally to God in thanksgiving for His wondrous works. The giving of thanks, however, should not be considered a seasonal event.
One generally uses his income either for expenses or for investments. The former he marks off as consumed—expended.
The world today yearns for the end of strife and material armaments. Thousands are praying earnestly for the fulfillment of the time pictured by the prophet Micah when it shall come to pass that "they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more" ( 4:3 ).
It is evident to the world that many boundaries of the human mind are breaking down. The limits imposed by matter are disappearing before the application of intelligence to the uses of the so-called forces which constitute matter.
" The Lord was not in the fire. " This assurance came to Elijah ( I Kings 19:12 ) as he stood upon the mount before the Lord.
Christian Science teaches that all church building is basically spiritual. Every activity of the Church of Christ, Scientist, must have its foundation in Spirit and in the discernment of the true nature of Church.
The Preacher, to illustrate his point that wisdom is better than physical strength, declared ( Eccl. 9:14 ), "There was a little city, and few men within it; and there came a great king against it, and besieged it, and built great bulwarks against it.
" To-day I pray that divine Love, the life-giving Principle of Christianity, shall speedily wake the long night of materialism, and the universal dawn shall break upon the spire of this temple.
