Putting on record insights into the practice of Christian Science.

SPEECH

When men think carelessly, irresponsibly, without recognition of the inherent demand upon them to contribute rather to the order of the world than to its confusion, their words and acts bear them witness. Feebleness of indecision, implacability of human will, biased judgments, and shifting viewpoint are evidenced in ill-considered or deliberately provocative speech, which can be both mischievous and dangerous.

ARE YOU IN NEED OF COMFORTING?

A Lovesome word is "comforter. " Whether it appears in English, Hebrew, or Greek in the Holy Scriptures its presence connotes refreshment, strengthening, holding up.

OUR UNIVERSE

A Distinguished natural scientist, writing nearly twenty years ago, declared: "The laws of Nature are not something imposed on an independently existing universe from without. Indeed not only the laws of Nature, but space and time and the material universe itself, are constructions of the human mind.

UNFOLDMENT, TRUE AND FALSE

Creation is dynamic, full of action. Physical science regards every material thing, however solid it may seem, as made of minute units of motion or energy.

"ARE YOU FAITHFUL? DO YOU LOVE?"

A Learned Chinese humanist has observed that he has great respect and love for Christians when they act as Christians. What a challenge is this to those who profess to be followers of the lowly Nazarene! Would it not appear that this Oriental observer was more keenly aware of the ideals of Christ Jesus than many who ostentatiously clothe themselves in Christian habiliments? The reader may be familiar with the tale of the shipwrecked sailor who fancied that the island on which he found himself was inhabited by cannibals.

MAN'S PLACE IS SECURE

A sense of place is always with each of us. It answers, after a fashion, the question, "Where am I?" But too often our sense of place is not a happy one.

SYMMETRY

The symmetry of God is revealed to us in the teachings of divine Science setting forth the perfection of man in God's likeness. He who desires to express symmetry will do so only as he understands that no quality of Mind is developed at the expense of another, but each unfolds in orderly perfection from the basis of infinity.

THE MOTHER CHURCH HOME—COMING

The Church Manual of The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, written by the beloved Leader of the Christian Science movement, Mary Baker Eddy, provides for an annual meeting of The Mother Church each June (see Art. XIII, Sect.

THE MOTHER CHURCH WARTIME FUND

The generous and steadily increasing contributions of branch churches, societies, and individual Christian Scientists are enabling The Mother Church to maintain and increase its wartime activities. These activities now extend to every part of the world where American or British Empire servicemen and servicewomen are engaged.

OUR CONCERN

The things with which men concern themselves constitute their lives and predominantly influence their characters. Are we greatly concerned with the little things of daily experience, the pleasures and pains of the senses, the easy flow and sometimes disturbing ebb of personal relations? Do our own selfish desires, ambitions, and vanities, our local failures or successes, mainly concern us? Then our lives will remain circumscribed within these tyrant barriers; we shall continue to be eased or distraught by the chance good or ill fortune of a world to which spiritual direction and purpose are unknown.
