How Christ protects consciousness

Many people take with some degree of seriousness the effect their thoughts can have on their well-being. For instance, it would be fairly common for people to recognize that if their attitudes were consumed with hatred, such harsh feelings over a period of time might not lead to the most pleasant condition for their bodies! At minimum, most would acknowledge that an individual's resentment or hostility can rob him of a more normal life of peace and happiness.

We live in an age that focuses increasing attention on the body. Hardly a book, a television program, a newspaper or magazine, is without some emphasis on the body.

A look at the question of evil

A point in the theology of Christian Science that sometimes causes people concern or puzzlement is the assertion that evil—sickness, disease, and sin—is unreal. To someone suffering from sickness or severe personal misfortune, this bald statement, out of context, could suggest that Christian Science is out of touch with life.

When we think there are no answers

You can almost picture the wide-eyed, inquisitive five-year-old carefully taking hold of the pocket compass that his father had brought to his bedside for him to see. What impressed the boy most about the compass was not that the needle pointed in the same direction regardless of which way he turned the case; rather it was that whatever was acting on the needle was something outside the case, something in space, "the space that had always been considered empty.
