Testimonies of Healing

My lifelong study of the teachings of Christ Jesus and Mary Baker Eddy has given me the confidence to turn to God for every answer. One morning, as I was walking to a bus stop on my way to work, I suddenly felt a sharp sensation at the back of my ankle.

As a child I suffered from periodic attacks of catarrh or sinus congestion, considered by doctors to be hereditary. At the time, my family had not heard of Christian Science and there was not much that the medical profession could offer in the way of a permanent solution.

I find hymns to be very inspirational and healing. One summer while camping with my family, I was healed very quickly of a severe burn from boiling water.

“I’m dating a girl who’s a Christian Scientist—does anyone know anything about it?”  That’s the question I posed to my mother and her fellow churchgoing friends at a diner after mass one Sunday. One of the most respected members of the group replied: “Ah, that’s the religion that heals.

A few years ago I had a wonderful, clear-cut example of Christian Science healing. I don’t know what the physical challenge would have been called, but it seemed life-threatening.

In 1993, around the time I first learned about Christian Science, I decided to apply these teachings to my life to overcome a physical condition I had lived with for my entire life: chronic sinus infections. Prior to my finding Christian Science, the doctors had told me that I would have to live in a bubble to be completely free of sinus symptoms.

As I prepared to take Christian Science class instruction about five years ago, I cleared my schedule, requested time off from work, and told my friends I’d be away. I also prayed about the class, and my teacher did, too.

I’ve found that good metaphysical farming demands alertness to recognize when mortal mind has planted bad seeds, as well as humility and patience to joyously clear them away. Dissolving error is not accomplished through self-will, whim, prognosis, or conjecture, but through practice of divine Science.

Frequently, testimonies in the Christian Science periodicals begin with a confession that the testifier realized it was time for him or her to express gratitude in print for Christian Science. This testimony is my expression of gratitude to God for the Comforter, Christian Science, which Christ Jesus said God would send, to bring forever to all mankind a remembrance of the teachings and healings accomplished by him.
