Testimonies of Healing

WHILE PLAYING in an intramural football game at graduate school, I had just slid feet-first in an attempt to catch a pass thrown from behind me. Suddenly a player on the other team landed on my ankle with his full weight.

IN THE YEARS FOLLOWING the passing of my first wife, feelings of doubt crept into my spiritual outlook. My life had become a vague compromise, with little of the sense of purpose and religious practice I'd been committed to previously.

I WAS RAISED AS A CHRISTIAN in the South, a church-going region of the United States. As a child, I was taught to pray to God and attended Sunday School and church every Sunday.

A FEW YEARS AGO, I had such terrible pain in my side that I thought I was going to die. When I've been unwell in the past my natural reaction has always been to pray for myself.

WHEN OUR CHILDREN were growing up, we lived on a farm. We successfully practiced Christian Science to heal all our problems, even those of our animals.

JUST AFTER MIDNIGHT, and there I was lying in the middle of the floor. I had crawled out of bed in great physical distress and did not want to get up.

FOR MANY YEARS, I've felt the safety and support that come from the desire to be, as the Bible says, "about my Father's business," and this has certainly included involvement in church activities. A recent incident vividly brought this fact home to me.

MANY YEARS AGO, not long after college, I had a healing that represented a milestone in my spiritual growth. My husband and I were given the opportunity to work overseas.

SEVERAL YEARS AGO I felt bombarded by ads and TV programs about widespread obesity in the United States. They said that obesity was the result of a self-indulgent search for "the good life," or material satisfaction.

I HADN'T HAD NEW GLASSES for three years or more, so last April I went to get my eyes examined by a well-established ophthalmologist. After the exam, he told me that I had cataracts in both eyes.
