Testimonies of Healing

The half has never been told. I have been thinking for quite a while that I would write to the Journal of the many proofs we have had of the loving care of our Father-Mother God.

From earliest boyhood my heart went out in yearning after spiritual things. At the age of ten years I joined an orthodox church, and for several years took an active part in all its meetings.

Nearly thirteen years ago I was healed by Christian Science, after having been pronounced an incurable by four physicians. From childhood I was taught that religion and sickness went hand in hand; that sickness was permitted by God in order to make us patient, loving, and "resigned to His will.

Persons whom Christian Science has blessed use every legitimate means to convey this healing truth to others. Many of us, however, have failed to realize, until now, what a splendid pulpit we have for this very purpose in the Journal and Sentinel.

It is now about ten years since I first heard of Christian Science. At that time I was in business and had been working very hard during the busy season.

My grandmother left me two legacies,—her great love of the Word of God, and the disease called catarrhal and bronchial consumption. These two legacies were in constant battle, each fighting for the victory over my mortal body, till it was redeemed by the healing power of the Christ-cure.

Having passed through many stages of unbelief,— skepticism, agnosticism, and infidelity,—and having for a year enjoyed the peace of God as revealed and proved in Christian Science, I wish to give such of my experience as may be helpful to others. Like many another wanderer, I enjoyed the privileges of a home governed by love and genuine piety, a home in which a Christian father and a God-loving, God-serving mother strove to the best of their understanding to lead me in the way they believed I should go.

I had a double tooth extracted by a dentist. Six hours afterwards my jaw was locked so that I could not put a knife blade between my teeth, and terrible pain in head and jaw followed.

Ruskin says, "God gives us strength enough and sense enough for each day's duties. " For years I tried to make that saying the basis of each day's work, but though it seemed that it must be true, I could not believe it, the facts were too strong against it, I thought.

I wish to add my testimony to the value of Christian Science. My sister was benefited by it so much that I began studying it, and the spiritual awakening to me was wonderful.
