Testimonies of Healing

I would like to share an experience I had a few years ago, when I was making arrangements to visit my father-in-law in another city with my husband and children. Taking advantage of the fact that we would be away from home for a few days, my husband and I decided to fumigate outside around the perimeter of our house, a task I had performed before on several occasions.

One day, while I was out walking, I tripped and fell hard on my knee. I felt a sharp pain, and I was screaming.

After leaving home and moving to a house of my own, I was working on some carpentry and injured myself, such that there was evidence of internal bleeding. It is an understatement to say that I was frightened.

I would like to share my deep gratitude for a wonderful experience I had through Christian Science. As a Sunday School student, I learned so much from studying the truths in this divine Science, and it was a great help to me in school and my life in general.

Growing up, I believed that spiritual healing was unique to Jesus and a few of his disciples, and that medical treatment was the only practical option for dealing with illness or accidents. But I had mixed results with medical treatment so was receptive to something better.

I rejoice for the most wonderful Christmas gift I could have asked for—the freedom to walk freely. Last year, while I was helping a friend about ten days before Christmas, I found it painful to walk.

During a period of great turmoil in my life following a painful divorce, I was struggling to regain a sense of peace. Newly single, but with a new full-time job and three children under the age of twelve, I was faced with both responsibility and the opportunity for spiritual growth, yet, at the time, the spiritual growth I yearned for seemed all but impossible as I found it difficult to feel connected to God, or to pray, because of the shame I was feeling over my inability to save the marriage.

I wish to express my gratitude for a healing of swollen feet and ankles, which led to a healing of anger along the way. When I experienced irritation in my feet for a few days, I didn’t think much about it or address it prayerfully.

I started wearing glasses in middle school because I was diagnosed with astigmatism. After graduating from college, I took Christian Science class instruction, which gave me a clearer understanding of man as God’s perfect spiritual reflection, and I realized I needed to challenge a limited, material view of eyesight as something that can be lost or distorted.

The first verse of the Bible, “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth,” in Genesis 1 , lays the foundation for the truth that Christ Jesus taught his followers, which he demonstrated by healing all kinds of diseases, and ultimately proved by his resurrection. Mary Baker Eddy discovered the Science behind the Master’s words and works, and faithfully recorded her discovery so that anyone can, through study and persistent effort, prove in their own experience the goodness of God, who is all Life.
