Late last summer during an extremely hot and humid afternoon, I noticed that my front garden needed to be watered. In spite of encouragements in news reports to stay indoors, and thinking only about the plants, I proceeded outside to water them.
As I finished watering, however, I was overcome by a wave of nausea and began losing my ability to stand or breathe freely. I felt strange, aware that I was having some kind of reaction to the extreme heat. So I started praying as I had learned to do as a child, having been raised in Christian Science.
I knew from the Bible that I was made in God’s image and likeness and that I was controlled by and inseparable from God. But because I was gripped by the fear of passing on, I also wanted to call a Christian Science practitioner for help through prayer.
