Letters

From the July 1886 issue of The Christian Science Journal

My Dear Friend: Your letter received yesterday, and today I feel like a new creature. My cry of despair has been turned into a song of praise. I cannot tell you what a treasure your letters are to me, and what an unspeakable blessing your treatment has been. May you be rewarded for the good you are doing. The words "Rest in the Lord!" seemed but solemn mockery to me, for I longed for one moment's rest; and out of the depths of a grateful heart I say, God bless you! How many times I have been led to say surely "the secret of the Lord is with them that love Him."

When will the children of God awake from this dream of matter, to their great inheritance of perfect health and harmony? The more we realize that the One Mind governs the universe and man, the more harmonious we become in both mind and body, reflecting more and more the "Mind that was in Christ Jesus." We can never arise above this belief of discord in matter, until we turn from the material sense of creation, and strive to gain the true or spiritual sense of our relations to the One Mind, who wisely and harmoniously governs all. We cannot serve two masters, nor can we serve both Mind and matter; for in one is Life eternal, and in the other, discord, sin, sickness, and death.
