From the August 1903 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I have known for years that there was a great deal of good in Christian Science, but I never thought that I should be one to test it. I took a severe cold and my physician called it pneumonia. He decided that my lungs were affected. We called another physician, and still another, and they decided that I had the dreaded tuberculosis, and could live but a short time.

I kept getting worse, and finally was nothing but a skeleton. I coughed so hard and incessantly that I could not sleep without opiates.

All hope of my ever being any better was given up, and my living seemed to be a matter of a few weeks at most, and probably only a matter of days, when I sent for a dear friend who is a Christian Scientist. We dismissed the doctors and the Scientist commenced to treat me. In a few days I began to improve and in two weeks I stopped coughing. From that time I gained rapidly until I was up and since then I have been in better health than in ten years previously. This was fifteen months ago, and is it any wonder that I feel grateful to Christian Science for what it has done for me?—
