The following experience of a friend of mine, which I will give in his own words, has suggested several thoughts to me that may prove helpful.
"Recently while hunting with a party of friends through a very wild and desolate tropical swamp, I became separated from my companions. At first this did not alarm me, but after hours of fruitless wandering, getting only deeper and deeper in mud and mire, the situation assumed a more serious aspect. Poisonous reptiles and wild animals made the prospect of a long stay rather desperate.
"After traveling in aimless circles through what seemed to be one vast area of desolation, utterly exhausted and discouraged, I had to admit that I was really lost. Silence and gloom held undisputed sway, everything reflected my hopeless despair. Finally, having exerted myself to the utmost and finding every effort futile, I thought of God, and lifting my eyes, began to ask for His aid. The very act of looking up revealed that the tree against which I was leaning had been blazed just overhead. Glancing quickly around I saw several trees directly in line bearing this same mark. Filled with hope and forgetting my weary condition, I started off with renewed strength and courage in the direction indicated. Soon the ground became more firm underfoot until finally I struck a well-defined path leading out of the swamp to the hills beyond.
