I am glad to be a witness to the healing power of the Christ-truth revealed to humanity through the teachings of Christian Science.
Seven years ago, while practising on the piano very vigorously and persistently for many hours a day, something seemed to snap in my arm. This was two days before a recital at which I was to play, and so during that time I had my arm constantly massaged and treated with various kinds of liniments to take away the terrible feeling of weakness. On the afternoon of the recital it seemed as though every bit of strength had run out through the ends of my fingers and I could hardly keep my hand on the key-board at first, but the general excitement and a great amount of will power braced me up finally, and I played the other things as well as I had ever done.
When I reached home I sat down at the piano and found that I could hardly move my fingers. The next day I consulted a surgeon of repute, and after a careful examination he told me that I must rest the arm for one, possibly two years, and that I would never again be able to use it with the same degree of strength. He, as well as others whom I consulted later on, called the trouble paralysis. He urged me to be out of doors a great deal, to take exercise, and above all to keep myself happy and cheerful or I would be in danger of the fate many others had met, who had experienced bitter disappointment and had brooded over it,—loss of reason.
