I have gained the courage, industry, and honest gratitude to acknowledge, in a very small degree, the blessings that have come to me from such apprehension of Christian Science as I have attained. Many years ago, when my mother came into some knowledge of Christian Science, my health became improved, and, among other things, malaria and intermittent fever disappeared. Those were pioneer days here, and we had some meetings in our home. I scorned them then, but now I see how they were blessing me at the same time.
In 1895, after having gone abroad or to the mountains each summer for many years, to avoid hay-fever, I went in a wretched condition to a practitioner, and received almost immediate relief. Since then I have been healed of many ills, including diphtheritic sore throat, or what seemed like it to myself and family: an ulcerated condition in my wisdom teeth, protruding piles, and many nameless ailments. I have also helped others, when called upon, through the understanding of divine Principle, the redeeming Love revealed in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, whom I have learned at length to love and appreciate, and to whom I owe the deepest gratitude for the battles she has fought and won in the Cause of Christian Science. I especially wish to express to her my gratitude for the wonderful healing message to the church at Concord. In addition to being healed, I have been converted from a most patronizing attitude toward religion, and gross ignorance and darkness on the subject, to that of devotion and enthusiasm, and this means more to me than anything else. It is developing in me character, and a capacity for my work, and it fills my life with possibilities and aspirations which are growing higher and better. I am humbly grateful to all the workers in the great Cause, for all they have done and are doing for me and others who need to know the truth which makes free.
