After passing three score and ten years, I found myself diseased, waiting for death, and believing it would open the gates of paradise for me. I suffered from stomach trouble, which had cast a dark shadow over some thirty years of my life. I was always seeking specialists and patent medicines, which only increased the trouble as years rolled by. Later I had a serious heart and kidney disease. Two New York doctors, both Christian men, examined me with great care. After the examination they informed me that my church work must be given up for a time, as excitement might prove very dangerous; therefore they ordered quiet, peaceful rest. The doctor, who watched over me with loving care, always sought the help of God to enable him to heal me. When he saw how helpless he was to heal me with drugs, upon his knees at my bedside he implored God to take charge of the case, saying that human skill could not save me. Divine Love answered his prayer on the evening of the new year, 1900, by sending glad tidings of great joy in His gracious healing message through the inspiration of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. This marvelous book was put into my hands on the second day of January, 1900, and I listened very carefully to the reading all day, without any apparent change in my health before I went to sleep, but nevertheless a new creation was being effected. I woke up next morning to find that a mighty change had taken place, and at two o'clock I was joyful,—harmonious in mind and body, singing "Glory to God." All the old conditions had gone—how I knew not, but Mrs. Eddy tells us on page 324 of Science and Health. Christ Jesus said. "The words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life." The diseased conditions were destroyed, and new, unspeakable happiness filled all the faculties of mind and body. My son and his wife, who had read this wonderful book to me all that day, when they heard me singing were filled with wonder and amazement, and feared that the change of death was at hand. All that had been done on my part was to listen to this glorious message of divine Love, which had imparted, vigorous life and health. On the first day of the new year I was thought to be under the shadow of the grave, but on the third day I was fully restored to health through this message of Truth and Love, sent from heaven for all who will receive it.
One day with "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and I was delivered from being in bondage to these so-called incurable diseases, to health and harmony! I am now realizing man's inheritance as the offspring of divine Mind, Spirit, which has brought sweet peace, rest, and calm trust day by day in the Divine protection and dominion promised to all who walk in truth and love. Every child of God may have this peace.
