Testimonies of Healing

IT is with the deepest sense of gratitude that I give this...

From the October 1909 issue of The Christian Science Journal

IT is with the deepest sense of gratitude that I give this testimony. In 1892 I was taken very ill, and was confined to my bed for ten months, having many physicians, and every kind of medicine known to the profession, with but very little betterment. In 1894 my little daughter passed away, and this seemed to be the very last possible burden for me to endure. I had been a church-member for twenty-five years. In all my weary years of suffering I clearly loved to read the Bible, and found much comfort thereby, yet each time I read it I wondered why people could not now be healed as in Jesus' time, as God is the same today as yesterday, and Jesus said, "He that believe on me, the works that I do shall he do also." Up to 1905 I had received treatment from seventeen physicians, undergone two operations, spent seven months in a sanitarium, and was finally told there was no more that could be done for me, as my diseases were many and complicated. Heartsick and weary of it all, I returned home, and in two weeks time was in an agony of suffering.

One day, while out driving, as I stepped from the carriage to go into a store my heel struck the curbstone, and I cried out in agony, from the pain in my spine, "O God, help me!" As I did so my eyes fell on the sign, "Reading Room of First Church of Christ, Scientist." Following the direction the sign pointed, I entered the reading-room while suffering greatly, and the lady who met me (may God bless her abundantly) gently said, "You know that all things are possible with God." She told me of her own healing, and explained a little of the beauties of Christian Science, then gave me several copies of the Sentinel; and I went home perfectly free from pain. I laid down on the couch and began to read, only to fall asleep and remain unconscious four hours. I had not slept without sleeping powders for two years, but I have slept every night since then perfectly. The following week I called on a practitioner, and in the first treatment was healed of three of the supposedly incurable conditions. I was under this practitioner's care four weeks, and she did loving, careful, prayerful work for me. As my complaints were legion, some have been slow in yielding, but the perfect manifestation is near at hand. My one desire now is, to he worthy the name Christian Scientist, to be obedient, humble, and to do whatsoever my hand finds to do, and all to the glory of God, for only in this way may I prove my sincere gratitude to God, and to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy.—
