Gratitude impels me to write a few lines in regard to a most interesting demonstration that has just been completed in our home, my husband's mother having been healed of a very bad case of asthma of about twenty-five years' standing. About six weeks after she had been healed of this disease, a severe dropsical trouble set in. She became greatly enlarged and suffered almost constantly. She could not lie down, owing to the condition of her heart, and as she had a great sense of fear, she employed a physician. He treated her about a week, but she seemed to grow much worse, and on Sunday morning. Nov. I, she lost consciousness. We called the doctor, and he pronounced her case very serious. He diagnosed it as an affection of the heart and kidneys with uremic convulsions, and said she could not live till evening'. He asked for another doctor, and they consulted together and decided to give her an opiate to ease her last moments.
In the mean time we called for Christian Science help. The practitioner came to the house and remained all day, till all fear had been dissipated. We had wired the other children, and one of them, being a doctor, wired back here to another physician to call and see what he could do for his mother; but he, too, gave no hope, and wired the son to that effect. The son then came on as quickly as possible, but by the time he got here from Michigan (which was the following Saturday night), his mother was up and able to get around by herself. He was much surprised, and the medical doctor after three or four days discharged himself. He, too. was much surprised at her very rapid recovery, when only one week before he had given her up to die. In two weeks she was perfectly healed and was able to walk eight or ten blocks without being fatigued at all. She is now free and happy. She is sixty-six years old and has not been so well, or slept so well, in forty years.
For this, and for many other blessings which I have received through the understanding and application of Christian Science, I am indeed thankful to God. and I hope to show my gratitude to our Leader by living the truth taught us in Science and Health.
