I HAVE had many reasons for rejoicing and deep-felt I thankfulness, since I have learned to know the truth that makes free—the blessed truth, revealed by Christ Jesus and explained to us through Christian Science. Divine Love has so wonderfully met my deepest need, that I feel impelled to speak about it. with the heartfelt hope that my experience may be as a cup of cold water for some weary wanderer in the wilderness of human belief.
Some months ago. while on a visit, a big dog sprang at my face and bit me. The bite was deep, under the right eye which also was injured, and my nose and cheek were in a dreadful condition. My husband, who was present, and the owners of the dog were dreadfully frightened— more than myself. I did not realize what had happened, until my husband cried. "Your eye, your eye!" I remember only, that at the moment I said in reply, "Nothing can harm me!" I repeated, "Nothing!" but I must say that I did not quite realize, then, the allness of God; at least, not quite clearly in the midst of all the confusion around me. The one thing I knew was that material means were out of the question with me, though the people surrounding me immediately suggested them. My dear husband, though not believing in Christian Science, did not call a physician, but took me home as quickly as possible. We had a long drive on a hot and dusty day, but I continued to repeat aloud the 91st Psalm, and that gave me strength and comfort.
At my request my husband called in a dear but very young Christian Scientist, the only one at hand, and then we wired to a Christian Science practitioner in Germany for help. In the mean time, the young friend treated me so kindly, and with such a clear perception of the truth, that although the blood flowed freely from the wound I had very little pain. There was no fever; and though it was the' hottest time of the year, and the heat had tried me much before, I slept peacefully that night. Not a single application, not even water, was used after the blood had been washed off, the daily bathing excepted. of course.
