[Translated from the German]

From November, 1909, until April, 1910, I suffered...

From the October 1911 issue of The Christian Science Journal

From November, 1909, until April, 1910, I suffered from a tubercular disease and was operated upon three times. A professor in Basel whom I consulted, besides our family physician, told me that the disease could be checked only by the removal of several ribs. I could not, however, make up my mind to have the operation performed, and hoped that the supposed germs would be destroyed by means of a drug which was injected for that purpose. To this diseased condition was added a lung trouble to which I had been subject in times past, and the condition of the heart became alarming. I became so weakened by the suffering that thoughts of suicide began to haunt me. In short, I was in such a sad state that it is startling for me now to realize that I have recovered my health.

While in this sad condition I met a machinist, who inquired as to my trouble, and then advised me to try Christian Science, stating that he himself had been healed of lung trouble shortly before. I had heard of this Science once before, and healing being now held out to me in such a positive way, I decided to apply for treatment to a practitioner in Basel. The result was wonderful indeed! After a few days the gloomy thoughts which had held me almost imprisoned left me, and I became convinced that the physical trouble must yield to Truth. One night, just after lying down, I felt a peculiar sensation which indicated a great change for the better. Thus the chief ailment disappeared, and with it the attending ills.

This remarkable instance of healing which I have experienced has convinced me that the Science discovered by Mrs. Eddy gives us the only true concept of being, and reveals the allness and power of God. Words fail to express my gratitude for all the good which has come to me. That God is the Principle of man's being is a thought that will be my constant companion in the future.
