It is six years since I took up the study of Christian Science...

From the October 1911 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is six years since I took up the study of Christian Science for the healing. At the time I was extremely nervous, suffered from severe stomach trouble, from kidney disease which was said to be tubercular, and also from dreadful headaches which (owing to the injury of a nerve during a very critical operation) the doctors said would terminate in insanity. I felt there was nothing in store for me but continual suffering, as the doctors had done all they could and I had been told there was no drug except opiates which would relieve me. I preferred the suffering, for I knew that these drugs would lead to something worse.

At this time Christian Science was brought to my attention by a gentleman who had been healed after the doctors had given him up. Through the help of a practitioner and the study of Science and Health I found that God can heal all sickness, that man is not subject to suffering, disease, and death; that God is Love; that all the laws of disease are null and void, for man is subject to the law of God and to no other law. As I also learned that the only power is the power of good, I began to improve rapidly, and very soon was able to understand in a degree the meaning of "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health, p. 468). and it has proved to be a help at all times, for it brings out and makes clear the allness of God and the nothingness of error. I now rejoice that through this understanding I have been healed of all these diseases and have remained healed, and also that I have proven in the past four years that God is my strength, which is never limited.

Since I began the study of our text-book. Science and Health, in connection with the Bible, I have found that the physical healing is very small compared to the spiritual uplift, —for with it came the understanding that Christ, Truth, is present here and now. I have found a practical religion, which can be used at all times and in every seeming trouble. For these blessings I am indeed grateful to God, also to Mrs. Eddy, our Leader, who has so wisely given us the literature which explains the truth and which, if diligently studied, is indeed our daily food for daily needs. My family rejoice with me, as they also have received many blessings through this truth.
