Christian Science was first brought to my attention...

From the March 1911 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science was first brought to my attention through the healing of my wife, though I gave little thought to it at the time In the fall of 1906 I was told by my physician that I had a complication of diseases and that it was necessary for me to try a change of climate, and as it seemed the only thing left, I started for California. On my way, however, I stopped in South Bend, Ind.. to see my daughter, and she suggested that I try Christian Science, reminding me that her mother had been healed by it years ago. I at once looked up a practitioner, secured a copy of Science and Health, and began to take treatment; also to study the Science and attend the meetings. In less than a week rheumatism had disappeared, the rest of my ills going gradually. Inside of five weeks I was healed of my troubles and had gained greatly in weight. In place of going to California, I returned to my business in Saginaw, and was as well able to attend to it as I had ever been.

During the year following I took a severe cold, which settled on my lungs. T had hemorrhages from three to five times a week, until conditions seemed very alarming. My family being very much frightened, I had a physician to diagnose the case. It was decided that I was to be taken by this physician to the University of Michigan for examination by a specialist. After the specialist had made a thorough examination he asked the physician if I really wished to know my condition. The physician assured him that I did, and he then told me the left lung was seriously affected, and that T had a very weak heart. As for a change of climate, he thought I would be fortunate if I got back home alive.

The specialist asked the physician if he was treating the case, and the physician said, "No, a Christian Scientist." The specialist laughed, and turning to me asked why I did not stop the hemorrhage. I replied, "I will, when you tell me where it comes from;" and from that time I had no more hemorrhages. T wish to add that while I was on my way to Ann Arbor T had suffered a most serious attack. I had Christian Science treatment after that for about six weeks, during which the disease disappeared. Since that time I have had some minor ailments, out of which I have been able to help myself through my understanding of Christian Science. At the present time I weigh one hundred and ninety-five pounds.
