I am truly grateful for the better...

From the October 1913 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I am truly grateful for the better and happier understanding of life that I have gained through the study of the Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. To know that God did not make man subject to sin, sickness, and death, enables me to believe the apostle James, when he says, "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning."

In the old way I had looked in vain for these perfect gifts, and for the peace "which passeth all understanding." Now, I know through the study of the Word, in the light our beloved Leader throws upon it, that God is the creator only of good, and this is the rock on which my faith rests secure. Any contrary belief belongs to the mortal dream which at times seems real to us; but with the knowledge of the truth of man's real being, it will give place to that which is eternal and perfect.

Christian Science has overcome for me many seemingly hopeless physical conditions, among them being rheumatism, neuralgia, and eye trouble. I have been completely healed, and no longer wear glasses, and have almost forgotten all the doctor's "don'ts" regarding the use of my eyes. I read by artificial light whenever I desire, and have even looked at moving pictures without any injurious effects to my eyes.
