Like the woman who touched the hem of Jesus' garment and was healed, the first touch of the truth in Christian Science brought healing to me. I had been a wretched invalid for seven years, suffering from spinal disease, female weakness, stomach trouble, extreme nervousness, and an intense fear of insanity. Part of the healing was instantaneous; the rest has been gradually realized as my understanding of the relation of God and man has grown.
I had been brought up with no knowledge of or belief in God, and with the exception of Genesis and Revelation I knew nothing of the Bible. But I can say of myself, as Jesus said of another woman, that because I loved much, much was forgiven me. My first real knowledge of God was gained during a few days' treatment in Christian Science. Then my life seemed transformed—it was as if a burst of glorious sunlight had penetrated the darkened consciousness. I thank God that I am learning to love more and more. The Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" are the most precious books in the world to me. Our home has been changed from a place where darkness, suffering, fear, and lack were manifest, into one of peace and plenty, and there is a growing realization of God's love. My husband and two children are united with me in the truth.
