In March, 1912, while hurrying to catch a street-car, I fell over an irregularity in the pavement and seriously injured my ankle. With assistance I was able to reach and board the car, and to continue the trip to my place of business, which was possibly three miles away. Upon reaching my office, I was compelled to call for help to get to my desk. All this time the pain was very severe and it was impossible for me to touch my foot to the floor. I had met with a similar accident some years ago, and although under the care of one of our best surgeons, I was compelled to go on crutches for ten weeks with my ankle in a plaster cast.
I feared a repetition of this experience under similar treatment, therefore I determined to try Christian Science, as I was somewhat interested in this teaching; so I at once telephoned to a practitioner for help. During the day the pain grew more severe, until at four in the afternoon I was compelled to call for a conveyance and be driven home, where it was with the greatest difficulty that I reached my room, even though I had assistance. On removing my shoe the ankle was found to be very badly swollen and discolored. The pain continued through the night and the next day, and I had to use crutches to get about my room. No bandages or bathing were resorted to, however; I relied solely on Christian Science treatment and the help gained from reading Science and Health. On the evening of the second day the healing seemed to come to me at once, and I arose from my bed and walked about the room, casting the crutches aside. The next day I walked to the car (a distance of about a thousand feet), and went to my office, for the pain had almost entirely left me, although the discoloration continued for perhaps ten days.
The healing seemed to me so wonderful that I could scarcely realize it, especially after my former experience with a similar accident, though not so severe a one. Not the slightest weakness has since been manifested. I feel it my duty to let this wonderful healing be known. I have also been freed from many minor ailments, and I am more deeply grateful to Christian Science than I have words to express.—Cleveland, Ohio.
