I wish to testify to the benefits I have received from the healing power of Truth. In 1903 I was healed of what was pronounced by physicians the last stage of lung trouble. I had been a sufferer for over thirty years. Being advised by our family doctor to try a higher altitude, I did so, and we traveled through the West for twenty-five years, but I received no permanent help. At times I seemed better, but as I became accustomed to the surroundings my condition was just as bad as before.
Thus it went on until hope was almost gone, and four years prior to my healing in Christian Science I returned to Beloit, Wis. Here I suffered more than I ever had before, and four of the best doctors in the place said I could not live, that my lungs were all gone. They said it would be of no use to give me any medicine, and thus I was left to despair. A loving friend then came and begged me to try Christian Science, saying it was God's work. (I feared it was not, but that was due to ignorance of the truth.) I finally sent my husband for a Christian Science practitioner, who came and gave me a few treatments, and to my great joy, through this truth I found the health that I had so long sought.
On the fourth day after my first treatment I did a large washing without pain or fatigue. I confess with shame, however, that I did not grasp the truth aright, for when I had an attack of measles the next January, I employed a doctor; but he could do me no good. After nine days I had become so ill that my family could scarcely awake me when I went to sleep, and the doctor said I could not live. My husband again went for a Christian Science practitioner, who came and gave me treatment. I immediately began to recover, and after three treatments I walked two blocks to the practitioner's house for another treatment. I continued to improve until I was completely healed, and I have since enjoyed good health.
