About fourteen years ago the stomach trouble with attendant nervous breakdown, from which I suffered, was pronounced incurable by prominent physicians. After being sent to my home in Indiana, Christian Science treatment was taken up. Acute lung trouble had set in, and it produced a hopelessly weak physical condition, as I had had very little sleep for many months; but after a few weeks' treatment all these ailments disappeared one morning, following a short sleep. I arose completely healed, and a week later took up professional duties. I have had no return of these ills and have not taken any medicine in these fourteen years; my sleep has been normal, and I have eaten any food I desired.
In other cases slower healing has been experienced, but Christian Science has been my only physician, dispelling all fear, and constantly bringing peace of mind as well as gradual physical improvement. These experiences have proved very instructive, teaching me the value of patience and the need to strive without ceasing for higher spiritual understanding, which will in due season be manifested in true healing, mental wholeness, the full realization of the allness of God, good, and man as His image and likeness.
A few years ago, upon a festive occasion, I was moved to snatch a large ignited fire-cracker from a lady's hand to save her from the unrealized danger. It exploded in my hand, causing an intense shock for the moment, besides badly maiming the hand; but after a half-hour of prayer and meditation in Christian Science, I was enabled to retire and sleep soundly until morning, when all pain had disappeared. A day later the hand was used in performing upon a musical instrument, and in a short time it was entirely restored.
