WHEN I first heard of Christian Science, I was undergoing an operation in a hospital here. I paid very little attention to what was being said on the subject, as I had no idea what Christian Science was, and classed it with the many different creeds that spring up from time to time. Gradually, as time went on, however, I heard remarks regarding it which made me desirous to hear more, and to prove its efficacy.
Our first demonstration came about four years ago, when to material sense my husband had a severe attack of sciatic rheumatism. He had suffered from it for about three weeks, being under medical care during this time and experiencing no relief. I asked him to try Christian Science, but he seemed reluctant to heed my advice, as our physician was also a close family friend; but finally, realizing there was no help for him in medicine, he consented. Two days after his first treatment, he left town on a short business trip. He had one more treatment on his return, and has never had a return of this ailment.
We have had many healings in Christian Science since then; measles, severe earache, colds, and whooping-cough have all been overcome. I myself have been greatly benefited. When I was eight years old, I fell and sustained an injury to my arm, which seemed to grow more painful as the years passed. I consulted a physician in regard to it, but he said he could give me relief only, as there was no cure for neuritis, which he pronounced the trouble to be. The arm had grown quite painful, and there were times when I could not use it at all, so I decided to have treatment in Science for it. Within a few days the pain and stiffness had entirely disappeared, never to return.
