For more than sixteen years I was afflicted with varicose veins. Different physicians were consulted here and abroad to very little or no avail. Conditions grew worse each day, and a few years ago I became a helpless invalid, suffering unbearable pain from a deep wound on my foot. The attending physician declared that only an operation would make me whole, as did another whom I consulted; but fear of an operation and the uncertain result made me hesitate, and it proved to be for the best. I had lost all hope, and in my despair wished only to "walk through the valley of the shadow of death," expecting there to find the place where the tired wanderer obtains rest and relief from all sorrow and pain.
Christian Science showed me then that right here is the place to enjoy the kingdom of heaven. It was after a terrible attack of pain that the question was put to me, "Why don't you try Christian Science?" Hardly knowing what this meant, I gave my consent to have a practitioner called. After the first treatment I was relieved of the dreadful pain, and seeing this result, which at that time seemed a miracle, I had treatment continued. Very soon I began to walk without assistance, while the sore on the ankle, which the physician intended to heal by applying grafted skin, healed perfectly and painlessly. With the help of the faithful practitioner I was led to an understanding of the healing power of Truth, became interested in Christian Science, and began to study the Bible together with the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. Today I cannot say which is more precious, the physical healing or the spiritual understanding gained through Christian Science.
I have never had any return of the trouble and find myself stronger than ever before. Different members in my family have had various attacks of disease, such as colds and serious throat trouble, likewise a fractured wrist, and they have all been healed through Christian Science. Words fail to express my gratitude, and so my daily prayer shall be to gain spiritual wisdom, to give my thanks for all the blessings I have received not only in words but in deeds, and to glorify God and live up to the requirements of Truth as unveiled to us in Christian Science.—Chicago, Ill.
