It is about seventeen years since my first healing in Christian Science came as a most blessed experience. I had been a great sufferer from asthma and lung trouble and had been told by my physician, who was always faithful in his efforts to help me, that he could do nothing more than relieve me temporarily.
My husband and four children needed me very much, and I used to wonder why, for their sake, God did not restore me to health. Being the daughter of a clergyman, I had been taught to love and trust God supremely, and often said that if I had only lived when Jesus was on earth and in Galilee, I could have been "made whole;" but my pastor and many friends told me that if I was only patient under these afflictions it would all be made right, because it was God's will for me.
After seven years of suffering, during which time I grew steadily weaker, the attacks of asthma and pain in the lungs increased in violence, my nephew, twenty-five years of age, came for a visit to our home. He had just been most wonderfully healed of stomach trouble by Christian Science, and his face seemed to shine with heavenly light as he talked of his healing and of having learned from the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, which he urged me to read, that it was possible to be healed by the Christ right here and now. Others had urged me to try Christian Science, but I had been very much prejudiced against it from the way in which it had been presented to me. The talks with my dear nephew, however, whose life seemed to be so Christlike, disarmed me of fear and prejudice, and I consented to read the book.
