For all the blessings Christian Science has brought to me I am truly grateful, and I thank God for having enabled Mrs. Eddy to explain this wonderful Science in such a way that all who faithfully study her book "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" will most assuredly reap a rich reward.
I first heard of Christian Science through a friend, who told me how it had helped her physically, and by her manner of living I could see she had also been uplifted spiritually. At the time I was suffering from what was called intestinal and stomach trouble, with numerous complications, and the doctors said they could help but not cure me. My diet was restricted and I was constantly taking medicine, but the disease was growing worse. My mother had suffered from the same malady for many years, and at last, according to the physicians, it caused her death; therefore I felt that the result might be the same in my case.
I bought a copy of Science and Health and began to study it; I also went to a practitioner, and through her understanding of the truth was healed. I now eat the same kind of food that other people do without feeling the least discomfort. Severe headaches, also rheumatism, which at times was so severe that I could hardly walk, have likewise been overcome. Influenza, which under medical treatment kept me in bed for a week or ten days, was entirely routed in a few hours by the understanding that "evil has no power" (Science and Health, p. 398). I am a trained nurse, a graduate of one of the largest hospitals in New York City, and know that medicine as practised is not scientific.
