My first healing in Christian Science occurred about sixteen years ago, when we were living in the house with a physician and his wife. One day I had a severe attack of headache, an ailment to which I had been subject since childhood, and which grew worse as the years passed, the attacks sometimes lasting from three to five days. As the doctor was out, I asked his wife if she knew of anything to relieve me. She astonished me by saying that she did not take medicine any more, but used Christian Science. I inquired what that was, so she talked to me for some time about it, saying it was God that did the healing. When I asked if she could help me, she gave me Science and Health to read and said she would try to do as I wished. In a very short time the pain was gone, and it has never returned.
After we had moved from Michigan to Washington, asthma, from which I had suffered for years, became very severe and bronchitis was developed. One would think that after getting such good results from Christian Science treatment I would want the same again, but apparently I needed the lesson which was to be learned. After having medical treatment for several months without getting better, I consulted a specialist and took treatment from him for a few months longer, but grew worse all the time. Then I decided to try Christian Science again. The doctor had said I could not live in this climate, as it was too damp. I have learned, however, that life and health do not depend on climate, but on our understanding of God and our relation to Him.
After taking Christian Science treatment for six weeks I was completely healed, and have never had the slightest symptom since. That was fifteen years ago. Since then God has been our only physician. I have also been healed of heart trouble, supposed to be inherited, and many other ailments have disappeared. Sometimes the healing has been slow and sometimes instantaneous, but the truth has never failed when applied faithfully. My husband has experienced many benefits. He was healed in a very short time of a severe case of influenza. Our son, aged nine years, has known no remedy but the truth as taught in Christian Science. When three years old he had all the symptoms of what is known as infantile paralysis, but the trouble was overcome with Christian Science treatment in two weeks, leaving no after effects, as is usually the case under medical treatment.
