Testimonies of Healing

Words fail to express my gratitude...

From the March 1917 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Words fail to express my gratitude for Christian Science, which has given me a better understanding of God and the meaning of life. All I can remember of my childhood is of being in bed, not caring to move about. When the first attack of violent pain appeared I was about eight years old, and could not stoop over to pick up anything; at twelve years I could walk only a few blocks at a time and could not go to school. I was unable to move my eyes, much less my head, without suffering, and could not lie flat down without experiencing great pain. Steel braces were resorted to for curvature of the spine, and later an operation was performed; but instead of making me well, it only made matters worse.

I believe I was in a dying condition when the study of Christian Science was taken up. I had lost faith in everything, and felt that this was just another remedy to try, which would fail as the others had. My mother, however, insisted on trying it as a last resort, so a practitioner was called in. As a result I was instantaneously healed of the pain in the head and spine which had caused me such suffering all those years. It seemed so wonderful to experience absolute relief, that I at once began the study of Science and Health.

Since then I have earnestly striven to apply the definite rules laid down in Science, and rejoice daily for the understanding and the grace and strength received from the application of the God-given truths that Jesus promised would make man free. I have been able to overcome all the other ills that the spinal trouble had supposedly brought on, such as nervous chills, neuralgia, heart trouble, and headache. I used to suffer on an average once a year with neuritis, but am free from this ailment likewise. The muscles in one leg were so drawn that I was lame, but this difficulty has been overcome, and my ankle, which was slightly bent, has grown straight.
