My gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me cannot be expressed in words, but I am trying to live it. In March, 1915, on shaking the fire one day while visiting a friend, the teakettle tipped and the boiling water ran over me. I did not realize what had happened until my back began to be painful. Then I declared the truth and began to sing one of our hymns.
Soon I put on my coat and walked to the station, a few steps away, to send a telegram to a Christian Science practitioner, and within an hour the burning sensation left me entirely. My friend was away at the time the accident happened, but on her return she helped me remove my dress and found that my whole back and much of my left arm were terribly burned. Both ears were about three times their normal size and blisters had formed wherever there were burns. No material remedies were applied, but soft cloth was put over the blisters.
There was no pain after the practitioner began treatment, and in two weeks my face and ears were entirely healed without spot or scar, though they were still tender to the touch. I had help for four weeks, and in that time new skin formed over my back and arm, except where a blister had been rubbed open; that took about two weeks longer to heal. From childhood I had been troubled with a very tender skin, a small sore taking a long time to heal; and that such large burns caused me no pain is to me a wonderful proof of what God will do if only we trust Him.— Oakland, Col.
