Testimonies of Healing

From the June 1919 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I am indeed most thankful for the privilege of learning a little each day of real religion and of its practical application to every problem of life as revealed in Christian Science. I am thankful that God's kingdom of good is here now, and that the Father's riches are ours to the extent of our capacity to receive.

Through the prayerful study and faithful application of Christian Science I have overcome to a wonderful extent the sense of fear, the sense of lack and dependence, and medicine is a thing of the past with me. At one time I suppose I would have made a desperate effort to swallow the moon if the doctor had prescribed it. In the effort to overcome stomach disorder which had troubled me all my life, I accepted the strictest rules of diet and exercise which mortal mind could invent. There were times when for hours at a stretch I could scarcely breathe on account of pain at the heart. I was always unsettled and uneasy about something. Ambition was a hard whip, but I was at last brought face to face with the fact that I could of myself do nothing. With this acknowledgment came the conviction that God is a just and loving Father and could not will any discordant condition.

At this juncture it was my great privilege to attend a Christian Science lecture, which rolled the stone away for the time being, and the free copy of the Sentinel given me there fed my famished soul. I continued my study of the Bible, and this verse from Psalms centered my daily thought: "I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye." This constant trusting in God's guidance brought me to a faithful Christian Science practitioner who patiently helped me to gain understanding and led me in the footsteps of our Master just as fast as my understanding unfolded. I have all of Mrs. Eddy's writings and they are my most valued possessions. The Journal and Sentinel are sources of constant joy to me, and many of the pamphlets are choice gems.
