I desire to express my gratitude for the healing, clarifying, and regenerating power of this new-old truth, Christian Science; for Mrs. Eddy states (Science and Health, p. 372), "A just acknowledgment of Truth and of what it has done for us is an effectual help." Christian Science is clearing up the mortal mind debris and leaving the divine understanding which is continually unfolding the real, spiritual sense of being.
The Christian Science church is the only one with which I have ever become affiliated, although I investigated the teachings of most of the other denominations. The church in which the greater part of my training was received believed so strongly in predestination, an eternal hell, the sending of sickness and death by God, also His punishment for circumstances over which we seemed to have no control, that my thoughts developed into a state of confusion and I drifted toward agnosticism.
In 1915 a cousin told me of Christian Science, saying that it taught the revival of the healings of Christ Jesus. As soon as possible I went to a Wednesday evening testimony meeting, and it was certainly as an oasis to me. Even before the service began I knew I had found my church. Throughout the meeting I saw God as Love, the giver of good only, "who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases." I have since learned the beautiful truth that the only predestination there is, is the predestination to reflect God, or good. All this was a revelation to me. I accepted without resistance the teachings of Christian Science, although it seemed difficult for me to get a correct understanding of them until one day I asked for help and experienced an instantaneous physical healing, when I seemed lifted above material laws and was so happy in the joy of seeing divine Love manifested. A few hours afterwards I began reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and the pages were illumined. Then I knew that all we really know about God is what we have proved. Shortly after becoming interested in this teaching I had the pleasure of rooming with a family of Christian Scientists, and they were channels through which much good came to me.
